*This workshop is reserved for K-5 boys and girls attending Marvin Elementary School *This is a single session event. This workshop is great for both students who attended one of my previous songwriting sessions and those who have not ever attended one. Date: Thursday, December 3, 2026 Time: After school until 3:30 pm Location: Music Room at Marvin Elementary School Audience: K-5, boys and girls Workshop Description: Santa is coming! He sure loves when you leave cookies and milk for him, but have you ever left him a personally written song to let him know what you hope to find under the tree on Christmas morning? In this workshop, you will do just that--write a song for Santa Claus! Kids want to write their own songs, but where do they start? The songwriting process can be overwhelming, but not with the process I have designed and will teach the kids! In this workshop, we'll take the mystery out of putting lyrics, rhythm, and pitch together to form a song. Students will compose their own song for Santa, (rhythm and melody) through a process-oriented series of fun, non-intimidating, and manageable steps. They will have access to pitched percussion instruments, as well as Santa-themed note and lyric manipulatives, to help them explore their ideas and organize their thinking. After creating a song, practice playing and singing it. BONUS: After the session, Lisa will transcribe and print out your child's song on staff paper, so that your child can leave it for Santa on Christmas Eve! Simply pack a snack and water bottle. All other materials are included.
