*This workshop is reserved for K-5 boys and girls attending Marvin Elementary School *This is a single session event Date: Thursday, October 8 Time: After school until 3:30 pm Location: Music Room at Marvin Elementary School Audience: K-5, boys and girls Workshop Description: Kids want to write their own melodies, but where do they start? The songwriting process can be overwhelming, but not with the process I have designed and will teach K-5 students! In this workshop, we'll take the mystery out of songwriting. Students will learn how to compose their own songs, (rhythm and melody) through a process-oriented series of fun, non-intimidating, and manageable steps. They will have access to pitched percussion instruments, as well as Halloween-themed note and lyric manipulatives, to help them explore their ideas and organize their thinking. This workshop is designed to be fun and lighthearted, not scary. No super scary Halloween themes will be presented; the thematic material will focus on such things as pumpkins, candy, costumes, trick-or-treating etc... Simply pack a snack and water bottle. All other materials are included.
